Who is Brisbane Women’s Cricket?

Brisbane Women’s Cricket was formed a joint venture between MSW and BNJCA in 2021 to facilitate the development of community cricket for women and older girls in the Brisbane region.

The BWC structure is supported by Queensland Cricket as complementary community cricket pathway for female players in parallel to pre-existing women’s premier cricket competitions, and to provide flow-on competition from the rapidly growing girls junior cricket competitions in the Brisbane-area junior cricket zones.

Our vision

BWC’s vision is to enable all female cricketers to play our game with girls and women of a similar age and skill level. Our competitions are built around a balance of competition and participation.

Our competitions

BWC currently operates three womens and junior girls community cricket competitions:

  • Harris Shield (U15)
  • Kirsten Pike Plate (Open); and
  • Rebecca McCoombes Cup (Open).

For its first season of operation, in 2021-22 BWC ran two very successful T20 competitions in the Harris Shield and Kirsten Pike Plate. Both comps are played in the evenings under lights and the combination of the shorter format and the balmy weather were a hit! Nine teams from five clubs participated in the first BWC year with UQCC taking out both the Harris Shield and the Kirsten Pike Plate.

For our second season in 2022-23, BWC is adding a new one-day women’s competition, the Rebecca McCoombes Cup to the line-up. This competition is positioned as a complementary community cricket alternative to womens premier cricket, and a pathway for aspirational players to develop their game. Sixteen teams from twelve clubs are lining up to compete for the three BWC premierships in 2022-23.
